EMA’s CHMP recommends talquetamab plus daratumumab with or without pomalidomide for RRMM
The European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use recommended talquetamab in combination with daratumumab, with or without pomalidomide, for treating patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) after ≥1 prior therapy, according to a press release. The recommendation was supported by data from the phase 3 MonumenTAL-3 trial, reported earlier this year in the New England Journal of Medicine. The US Food and Drug Administration is also reviewing a supplemental Biologics License Application for the same indication, submitted in July 2026.

Belantamab mafodotin combinations greenlit by Italian Medicines Agency
The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has approved and made available belantamab mafodotin-based combination therapies as the treatment of choice for patients with RRMM at first relapse. Belantamab mafodotin, combined with either bortezomib-dexamethasone (Bela-Vd) or pomalidomide-dexamethasone, was approved in 2025 in the EU, UK, and Japan, based on data from the DREAMM-7 and –8 trials. The FDA also approved Bela-Vd in 2025.

Multi-omics analyses of MIDAS cohort uncovers potential molecular drivers of MRD status
A report published in Nature Medicine outlines key findings on molecular heterogeneity and its association with measurable residual disease (MRD), uncovered via integrated genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic profiling of tumor samples from patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) from the phase 3 MIDAS trial. Both known and new molecular drivers of genomic instability were identified, which were also used to develop a model for predicting MRD status after isatuximab-based quadruplet induction therapy.

Belantamab monotherapy has clinical activity in RRMM, final DREAMM-3 data show
Final analysis of the phase 3 DREAMM-3 trial, published in the Blood Cancer Journal, showed a consistent trend toward improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) with belantamab mafodotin, compared with pomalidomide and dexamethasone, in patients with RRMM who had ≥4 prior lines of therapy. No new safety signals were seen after long-term follow-up.

Extramedullary plasmacytoma shares genomic features with EMD but is less complex
In an analysis comparing the genomic landscape of extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) — a localized plasma cell neoplasm without bone involvement — with that of extramedullary disease of myeloma (EMD), some genomic alterations were found in both EMP and EMD. Notably, the findings, reported in Haematologica, highlighted the lower genomic complexity of EMP compared with EMD, including a lower mean number of copy number changes (4.3 vs 19.3).

Why Become a Member

The International Myeloma Society is a professional, scientific, and medical society established to bring together clinical and experimental scientists involved in the study of myeloma. The purpose of this society is to promote research, education, clinical studies (including diagnosis and treatment), workshops, conferences, and symposia on all aspects of multiple myeloma worldwide.

The IMS is a membership organization comprised of basic research scientists, and clinical investigators in the field along with physicians and other healthcare practitioners.
