International Myeloma to Convene Global Experts in Warsaw for 4^th Annual Workshop on Genomics

Leading researchers and clinicians will focus on defining and advancing treatment strategies for functional and ultra-high-risk multiple myeloma

(Boston, MA) – June 2, 2026 – The International Myeloma Society (IMS) will convene leading international researchers and clinicians in Warsaw, Poland on July 10-11, 2026 for its 4^th Annual IMS Workshop on Genomics, a scientific meeting focused on the biology, identification, and treatment of functional and ultra-high-risk multiple myeloma – an area of significant unmet need despite major advances in treatment over the last decade.

The workshop will bring together experts across translational research, genomics, and clinical care to examine why a subset of multiple myeloma patients continues to experience aggressive disease progression and poor outcomes despite intensive therapies. Through scientific presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative debate, the meeting aims to advance understanding of the biological drivers of high-risk disease and identify new opportunities for more personalized and effective treatment approaches.

“While outcomes for many patients with multiple myeloma have improved dramatically in recent years, there remains a subset of patients whose disease continues to behave aggressively despite our most advanced therapies,” said Dr. Nikhil Munshi, MD, Immediate Past President of the International Myeloma Society. “A major challenge facing the field is that we still do not fully understand how to consistently define, identify, and treat these ultra-high-risk patients. This workshop is designed to bring together global experts to address those questions and help move the field toward more biologically informed and clinically actionable strategies.”

The IMS Workshop on Genomics was launched following the first IMS-FDA joint workshop in 2022, which highlighted critical gaps in myeloma biology and clinical management. The inaugural IMS genomics workshop, held in 2023, convened international experts to establish consensus around defining high-risk multiple myeloma. Since then, the meeting has evolved into a leading forum for translating genomic insights into clinical advances across the myeloma disease continuum.

This year’s workshop will focus specifically on functional and ultra-high-risk disease, including patients who experience early relapse, treatment resistance or poor survival outcomes despite current standards of care.

Day one sessions will focus on defining and understanding functional high-risk disease, including:

• How functional high-risk multiple myeloma should be defined
• Limitations of current classification frameworks
• The genomic basis of high-risk disease progression patterns
• Practical management considerations from induction through relapse
• Aggressive disease manifestations such as extramedullary myeloma and plasma cell leukemia
• Efforts to better define an ultra-high-risk patient population with exceptionally poor prognoses despite available therapies.

Day two sessions will explore emerging areas of genomic and translational research, including:

• New genomic insights involving both myeloma cells and the tumor microenvironment
• Novel therapeutic vulnerabilities and treatment targets
• RNA-targeted therapeutic approaches
• Oncogenic pathway dependencies
• Epigenetic strategies relevant to high-risk disease
• Future directions in precision medicine and translational myeloma research

Across both days, the workshop will emphasize active scientific dialogue and consensus-building through integrated panel discussions designed to foster collaboration among basic scientists, translational investigators, and clinicians.
